Balancing Act: Mind, Body and Health After a Breast Cancer Scare
Right, so now that I have posted my unfortunate breast cancer diagnosis it's time to get real about being healthy and well. This will be a bit of a journey. You will recall I said in my previous post - F*cking 50 (the plus is silent) that if one was not in great shape - now was the time to get healthy or there will be consequences. Well well well here we f*cking are!

Ironically, I am in relatively good health. Aside from the early detection of the non-invasive breast cancer in my left breast and being overweight (sighhhhhhh)!!! Now, not going to lie, the weight thing is a very repetitive cycle for me. Up, down, here we go again, throw in some yoyo dieting, obsessive focus, perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause and my absolute LOVE of a good time and food. SIGHHHHHHH! You get the picture. And, I am sure I am not alone in this experience.
I am all for body positivity and acceptance of one's body. Unfortunately, the status quo simply does not serve me (see Breast Cancer Network Australia - Known Risk Factors). So, I am on a journey (as you have seen), to be the best version of myself. To take care of my body, my wellbeing and my health. I am doing some mind work (meditation, mindfulness, reflective practice, focused breathing, napping); trying new things (gardening, this blog, writing, not housework or cooking); and now a committed focus to bringing down that dreaded number on the scales. Not going to lie, it's scary and confronting. I've failed at this more times than I have won.
Again, why share? Well - keeping it real. And none of us are alone. I've been blessed through early diagnosis and a great medical team with a second chance. I am not going to waste it.
I'll post some crap on Instagram if you want to follow for regular updates. Perhaps I should title it 'old fat lady gets fit-again'. In addition to getting back to regular exercise, I am also doing a Mindfulness Challenge, cos there is A LOT going on in there!
BTW - I have been playing around with e-books. Check out my Resources page.
Stay strong and sassy friends Kym
