F*cking 50⁺ (the plus is silent)

So, this is a place I can muse about turning 50 55...and beyond. They say, 50 is the new 40 and 40 is the new 30. I say bullsh*t. Fifty (F.I.F.T.Y - SAY IT LOUD) is 50, there is no escaping the reality of it, no magic pill (this is not Hollywood), no secret potion, no special diet that will hold back the inevitable (actually some of that is not true)! You are 50 (the plus is silent) fool. Make the most if it. If you are not in great shape, I suggest it's time to get your sh*t together…and fast. That includes your finances, your career, your relationships and your life (and possibly your wardrobe and shoe collection - you know who you are). This is seriously reality check time. If you are not where you want to be, you need to make some changes. Otherwise, you are in for a seriously sh*t time by the time you are 80. If you are happy with what you've got, good on you. You are the 1% of the population who has their sh*t together. Well done, now don't be a d*ck…give something back to society. Help somebody else up. We don't just throw down the ladder - throw down a net. Mentor a youth, give a disadvantaged person a job, empower somebody who you know lacks confidence, invest in somebody's dream. Share your wisdom and skills. Don't be a selfish f*ck!

I had great plans for turning 50, challenges, goals, a purpose, a plan to defy the odds. Well I turned 50 in xxxxxx and now it's 2023 knocking on the door of 2024 and guess what I'm 50⁺. I look 50ish (smirk) and frustratingly, despite my best efforts, I feel 80! 50⁺ suxs - big time!!!!

I am not going to lie - there comes a time in your ageing when you physically mourn your youth. Fight it all you may, but for many of us, we will enter a phase, where, despite our best efforts, we are sad. We miss our youth, and reflect back on all of the missed opportunities, and wonder if given a second chance what would we change. Some say, "oh nothing", I say bulls*it. In fact, I like to play a bit of a game where I reflect back over my life and ponder those moments where I had decisions to make, and wonder about the what if's. My own personal Sliding Doors. The secondary purpose of this is to make sure I can even remember my past!! For those of us with a high level of Alzheimer's and dementia in our family tree - remembering things is a test we put ourselves through every day. One episode of missing car keys and I am tearily ready to book myself into the local nursing home.

The first thing about moving into the 50 zone is to have a bloody good vent. Go on, you'll feel better. F*ck off 50, f*ck you 50, f*cking 50, ffkkk f*ckkkkkkk f*cckkkk ….you get the point. They say youth is wasted on the young. Too F*CKING RIGHT it is!!! Mourn it, curse it, lament it, loathe it. Do it! But then get the f*ck over it and move on. You are 50 or older, yep it sucks. But hey, we're not dead yet. I make this assumption for you too, since you are reading this. And although we slip into the realm of the great unnoticed (which feels remarkably like my high school years) and we may feel (at times) irrelevant and invisible (that's another blog post), there is power to be found in the shadows (insert evil laugh) and you can feel free to lose the weight of the expectations of a society that values youth. Toss those fu*kers out - literally NOBODY is looking.

So go be beautiful, glorious you. Write that book, take that dance class, write that blog!

Till next time....Stay focused and strategic friends! 💪✨ Kym
